The Party Song - Emery Print E-mail

emery.jpgThis weeks selection is from the group Emery. "The Party Song" comes from the group's latest release I'm Only a Man.  This group is originally from South Carolina and has a diverse list of influences as evidenced by their interesting mix of vocals and beats.  This particular album creates many moods which, of course, is the biggest draw for my listening preferences and running playlists.   Emery is usually better known for their "screamo" style of delivery, putting them among the likes of groups such as Thursday or Thrice.  However, "The Party Song" is tamed down a bit by comparison, while still retaining an upbeat and energetic demeanor.  "The Party Song" is an interesting pick to que-up on the mp3 player because it has a pressing and somewhat elusive mood which is excellent for interval runs.  The tempo is sprightly enough to keep the "Inhale for two breaths - Exhale for two breaths" pattern without keeling over from O2 depvrivation.  Of course, listening to the lyrics will bring an interesting scenario to mind if one is empty for thought.  Or if you are like me, you can just use the pace and energy to feed the emotional fuel, tuning in here and there to catch their vocal pleas.  Looking for something to rev you up?  This is a great one to check out. Every time I hear Toby say, "I got this, I got this, I got this - I don't need you," I have no other goal than to press on, speed up, and breathe harder.  Have a good run.
